This is exactly why the public doesn’t respect atheists. It’s one asshole who ruins it for everyone. It’s the same exact reason some atheists don’t respect some religious people. You don’t like it when they do it, so don’t do it back. This isn’t kindergarten. 

1) Really? REALLY? THIS is why the public doesn’t respect atheists? The majority of the “public” doesn’t know what an atheist is, and the majority of those who do don’t “respect” them because their preachers have told them that they’re responsible for Hitler and Stalin and Mao and that they sleep with the devil. THIS has NOTHING to do with why people don’t respect atheists.

2) You’re implying that by vying for a loud position in the public discussion, atheists are being assholes. BUT WHEN YOU SEE A COCA COLA AD YOU DON’T SAY “WHAT ASSHOLES! LET ME DRINK WHATEVER SODA I WANT!” AND WHEN YOU SEE A BIBLE IN EVERY MOTEL ROOM EVER, AND A CHURCH WITH A TACKY SIGN AND SLOGAN IN THE YARD EVERY TWO MILES, AND WHEN YOU SEE CHRISTIANS REPRESENTED IN EVERY FACET OF DAY TO DAY LIFE, BEING AS LOUD AS THEY WANT, BEING AS RIDICULOUS AS THEY CAN BE… that’s just the way things are? And you don’t mind… but a billboard from an atheist organization is pushy and “too much?” Jesus FUCKING Christ, people. Go fuck yourselves. You’re hopeless.

3) HOW DOES THIS INSULT SOMEONE’S FAITH ANY MORE THAN SAYING “JESUS IS THE SON OF GOD” INSULTS PEOPLE WHO DON’T BELIEVE JESUS IS THE SON OF GOD!? YOU SEE THAT EVERYWHERE!!! EVERY FUCKING WHERE!!!!!!!!!! YOU CAN’T GO A SINGLE DAY WITHOUT HAVING TO TACITLY ACKNOWLEDGE THAT!!!! This is not a big deal. This is exactly what every other group does. And it’s NOT why most atheists hate religious people (there is a long long list of ACTUAL grievances, and you know that). And you people have your head up your ass. And haha if you can’t tell, I’m one angry loud atheist.
